As your child grows up and learns new skills, they get closer and closer to the first big change in life – their transition from nursery to school! It’s a big step, and it can be daunting without a little preparation beforehand… but that’s what our pre-school team is here to provide.
Our pre-school is in a separate annex and offers a stimulating environment where your child will learn more every day, thriving in a fun, safe space. Our goal is for every child to leave us as a happy, confident and independent learner, excited for the challenges and fun of Big School!
Working to a curriculum
While pre-school is still a fun place for your child, and each day is filled with play and fun activities, we take a more structured approach as they grow. In pre-school we follow a curriculum that encourages the children to learn, planning activities that give them new experiences. These new experiences are an opportunity for your child to develop new skills, and this more structured approach helps your child to get ready for the move to school.
Getting ready for school
At the heart of what we do in the pre-school room is school preparation. We focus on “school readiness” using a programme developed by local schools to help nurseries get children ready for the transition to school. The programme is based on 10 keys for unlocking school readiness. These include:
I can settle happy without a parent or carer
I can tell grown-ups and friends what I need
I can go to the toilet and wash my hands
I can put on my own shoes and feed myself
I enjoy sharing books with a grown-up
