Room 3 - Pre School Unit - (34 months - 5 years approx).
A large bright playroom with adjoining permanent role-play / home corner and a Creative room for use mainly by this age group. The extensive range of equipment and planned curriculum introduce the children to a more structured environment in readiness for the beginning of their school life. The emphasis is still for the child to learn through playing, with the curriculum content based on the EARLY LEARNING GOALS (ELGS). These are a set of expectations forming part of the FOUNDATION STAGE that all setting must follow if they accept 3- 5 year olds in receipt of government funding. They lead to the National Curriculum that all children must follow from Year 1 of the statutory schooling. .
The ELGs consist of a number of areas of learning that must be considered when planning the curriculum for this age group. These are PERSONAL, SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT, COMMUNICATION, LANGUAGE & LITERACY; MATHEMATICAL DEVELOPMENT; KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING of the WORLD; PYSICAL DEVELOPMENT and CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT.

The progress, attainment and achievements of the children are regularly assessed and shared with the parents / carers through weekly reports and assessment sheets.
In addition to work within the Nursery, activities such as nature walks, local visits to the library, shops, and parks are organised to stimulate and increase the children's interest, knowledge and awareness of all aspects of the world around them.
