Settling in Children / Behaviour Management
We believe it is vital to work with parents/guardians in order to offer the children in our care the very best start in his/her life. For this reason we offer a series of introductory sessions prior to their starting date to introduce your child to what may be their first experience of care outside the family home.

Parents/carers may stay with their child during one of the sessions, however a deposit must be received before any further sessions can be arranged.

Settling in Children
  • Parents/carers are welcome to come to the Nursery at any time without prior arrangement.
  • Parents/carers of all children will be provided with reports outlining activities they have been involved in during their time at the Nursery. The Nursery operates a Key Worker system whereby each child has one staff member directly responsible for the care, education and development of that child as well as liaison with the parent/carer directly.
  • Comforters such as dummies/toys/blankets are seen as an important part of development in a young child, and Nursery Staff will work with the parent/carer and show sensitivity of the needs of the young child whilst at the Nursery. Older children will be encouraged to put their comforters to one side and participate in the daily activities organised by the Nursery Staff.
  • Parents/carers are regarded principle providers for their children’s needs and the Nursery Staff are committed to providing the best care to the children in partnership with the parent/carer.
Awsworth School House Day Nursery Return To Home Page Behaviour Management
  • The Nursery has a policy on no smacking. No child will be smacked for any reason, by any member of staff/adult within the Nursery.
  • The children will not be shouted at in an aggressive manner. Voice tones are regarded as sufficient to gain the required attention.
  • Any anti-social behavior will be dealt with in the following manner.
  • The child will be asked not to proceed with the activity and if necessary be distracted in another part of the Nursery.
  • The child may be segregated from the play for a few minutes to calm down.
  • If an older child physically hurts another child or member of staff, the child will be encouraged to say sorry and will be closely observed.
  • For repeated misdemeanor the Senior Nursery Staff will approach the parent/carer to discuss any problems which may be the cause.
  • Biting and pinching amongst young children are a natural part of growing and learning process and the Nursery cannot be held responsible if a child is bitten or pinched. It will be treated as very anti-social behaviour with the child being closely observed and dealt with as stated above. Older children will be encouraged to apologise to the child/adult.
  • The Nursery cannot be held responsible for children repeating bad language heard by another child in the Nursery, although it will be treated as very anti-social behavior and dealt with as stated above. Staff/adults within the Nursery are expected to refrain from the use of bad language whilst at the Nursery.
  • If a child's behaviour continues to be a cause of concern the Nursery Manager/Deputy Manager will inform the parents/carers and any program of discipline will be carried out with the co-operation of the parents.
